Chiharu Shiota, Trauma, 2008.

Within my work I have been greatly influenced by Chiharu Shiota. Shiota uses everyday objects and casts them in mounds of thread that changes the language of the original object. Shiota clambers around in the fields of our unconscious. Within her well known installations she weaves black yarn into hectic webs that take over entire galleries and in which personal objects are found cocooned.
Within my own studies I have experimented with entering the viewer’s space through stitch and thread to convey a powerful message of the mass production of the beauty image within society.
